The Building
Malmerendas Boutique Lodging was born in a late-19th-century house, typical of Porto’s bourgeoisie, located in the city centre.
In the entrance hall, you will find a copy of the original construction permit (provided by the Municipal Archives of Porto City Council), issued in 1888 in favour of Francisco Pereira Passos.
In the early 20th century, the house was reportedly purchased by Bernardino Luís Machado Guimarães (1851–1944), a distinguished professor at the University of Coimbra and the 3rd and 8th President of the Portuguese First Republic, who used it during his stays in Porto. It is said that his funeral procession departed from this house towards Vila Nova de Famalicão, the family residence.
Fully restored in 2015, the house was carefully designed to welcome those seeking a unique accommodation experience.
